31DC13 Day 22: Inspired by a song

Today I'm finally continuing the challenge! I really thought I would have had this one finished before the new year, so I have tittled all my post about the challenge to the year 2013... I think I'm going to continue with that anyhow. 

I'm showing you a song inspired mani today that wasn't actually inspired by a song in the first place... BUT while I was making it this one song kept playing in my head constantly and so I thought this would be still perfect mani for today's task. I actually made this mani for a nail art contest, which I unfortunately didn't win though. Lunalii won the contest with her gorgeous french mani and she got to make an awesome trip to New York!

Maybe I'll get to visit New York in the future too! At least now I have visited it in the form of nail art:
So quite obviously I took my inspiration for this mani from New York itself and the song that kept playing in my head... You probably already guessed it, but it is of course Alicia Keys' Empire State Of Mind (Part II):




And here's what I used for these nails:

I wasn't totally happy with this one, but I was in a bit hurry making it, so I didn't really have time to redo anything. But at least the connection to the song is quite obvious.

Two years ago I got inspired by on of my all time favourite band's song: Coldplay's Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall and made this colorful splatter mani:

Haaste jatkuu vihdoin ja viimein! Oletin kyllä vahvasti tätä aloittaessani syksymmällä, että saan haasteen kevyesti tehtyä vuoden loppuun mennessä, mutta eihän se nyt ihan mennytkään niin... Noh, aion joka tapauksessa tehdä tämän innolla loppuun! Tänään oli siis haasteena inspiroitua laulusta ja esittelenkin teille manikyyrin, jota tehdessä sain aivan toivottoman korvamadon.

Oikeastaan lähdin tekemään näitä kynsiä kynsikisaa varten, enkä varsinaisesti alunperin suunnitellut näitä tämän haasteen kynsiksi, mutta ajattelin, että nämä sopisivat tähän kuitenkin täydellisesti. Kynsiin on siis luonnollisesti haettu inspiraatio New Yorkista ja se toivoton korvamato oli tottakai Alicia Keysin Empire State Of Mind. Ihan täysin tyytyväinen en kyllä näihin kynsiin ollut ja eipä näillä harmittavasti voittokaan irronnut. Toivottavasti pääsen kuitenkin vierailemaan New Yorkissa joskus tulevaisuudessa kuitenkin!

Kaksi vuotta sitten inspiroiduin yhden suosikkibändini laulusta, Coldplay Every Teardrop Is a Waterfallista ja toteutin laulun videota mukaillen värikkään roiskemanikyyrin (kurkkaa postaus täältä).

31DC13 Day 2: Orange Nails

It's time for the second mani of the challenge and some orange nails!

I only had one orange polish among the ones that I haven't tried out yet, so it was quite an easy task to choose it as the base color for this mani. The polish was Misa Taking Chances, which I've actually worn already twice as a pedicure so it's not really an untried one, but I haven't yet shown it here or wore it on nails. I really loved the polish on my toes, but somehow it didn't look as good on my finger nails.. I don't really know why! Sooo, after wearing it a while alone, I decided to do something with it as I wasn't enjoying the color too much... As this was the second day of the challenge and I needed to have orange nails, I decided to add some more orange to the mani and did a saran wrap mani with Taking Chances as the base color and China Glaze Riveting on top.

I don't know if the combo of these two is really the best one out there, but at least the orange was now more my type of orange. The nails looked quite pale still with only the saran wrap, so I added some gold water decals and some rhinestones.

I'm not 100 percent convinced about this mani, eventhough I do love orange and Riveting is one of my all time favourite polishes! The combo of it and Taking Chances made them both look a bit weird... Oh well, at least I had an orange mani...

It's really a gorgeous polish, so I'm not sure why I didn't enjoy it as manicure as much as I liked it as pedicure... Weird!

My Very First Ones

A while ago in a Finnish nailart Facebook group people were talking about their very first OPI polishes and it was really interesting to read what colors everyone had chosen as their first OPI ever. That got me thinking about my first OPI and of course some other first polishes from other brands. Interestingly enough I seemed to still own pretty much all of those first ones, so I thought I would do I fun little look back post about my very first ones. I chose here only the most popular brands or the brands that I have or have had the most polishes from. I also have to say that eventhough I do have quite a good memory, I had to use the blog as back up when I tried to remember which ones were really the first ones. But that's really the fun thing about keeping a blog as it enables an easy way to look back.

My very first OPI is Kinky in Helsinki which I bought (like you would probably imagine) because of the name. It is a quite pretty color too, but not really a unique one, but for a Finnish girl it's really special because of the name. I have worn this only ones though, which is probably just because the color isn't that unique and there has always been some other pink one in my stash that I neede to try out or something. So I should really wear this again soon! I think I bought this somewhere in the early 2010.

My very first China Glaze is called Pure Elegance and it's actually the oldest one of all these polishes here. As you can see, I have used it quite many times and it's almost half gone. However, lately I haven't really used it as it isn't the best polish formula or quality-wise, but it of course has a special meaning to me as it is my first 'brand' polish. I bought this one in 2009.

I went quite long without trying any Zoya polishes as they were so hard to get here in Finland. Then in 2011 I bought few Zoyas from a blog sale and among them was Nidhi. I chose it here as it was the first one that I ever tried on. It's a really gorgeous polish and one of my all time favourite red ones. It also made me fell in love with the brand and after Nidhi I just had to have more and more Zoyas, and well, now it's probably my favourite brand of all. I have only worn Nidhi twice which is a bit shame as it is soooo gorgeous.
 
I also bought my first Color Club in 2010 and Fashion Addict was the first one that I tried out of those. It's actually the only one that I have left of the ones that I bought then. I have had quite a few of Color Club polishes over the years (actually I counted 38) but currently I have only 12 in my stash and those are all (except maybe one) ones that I'm going to keep. So I have tried quite a few of Color Club polishes but it hasn't been my favourite brand and I feel like there's always some other brand that has the similar polish with better quality, color or formula. So I usually choose to have something else than Color Club. I think it might have also something to do with the brush as I don't like it as much as I like some other brushes. But Fashion Addict is a really gorgeous subtle holo. It isn't the most unique one either but I have still kept it as I haven't had anything else that would have had the exact same color. 

Essie Demure Vixen is one of those polishes that I just had to get because I kept seeing so many great swatches of it. This I got in October 2010 and I'm a bit embarrassed to admit but I think I've only worn it once! I have to fix that as soon as possible as this is a really gorgeous one! For quite a while I only had something like five Essie polishes in my stash as they have been a bit more expensive and the colors haven't always been the most interesting ones. This year Essie has made some really awesome collections and now I have over 30 Essies in my stash. It has also become one of maybe favourite brands, I'd probably say it's the second favourite after Zoya (of course with the wider brush).

I bought Orly Lollipop and also Gumdrop in the summer of 2010 and they are both from Orly's spring 2010 collection. Gumdrop wasn't really my color and it has been long gone, but I still have Lollipop and I've used for several different manis. The formula of Lollipop isn't the best one out there, but the color is really pretty, so I have kept it. I think I need to compare it with some other polishes that I have gotten lately and see if I'm still going to want to keep it. It came with that little lip gloss, but that one I haven't tried... :D
Misa Genie in This Bottle is one of my all time favourite polishes, the color is sooooo pretty! This isn't actually my very first Misa as I had two before this one (It's You! and Date Nights to the Twilight) but I don't have neither one of those two anymore, so I included GiTB here as I wanted to have a Misa polish here too. Misa is really a great brand though I only have few of these in my stash. They have done couple of really great colors that have gone directly to my favourite polishes list, but somehow I just haven't bought more of these. This one I got in 2011, the two before that were bought in 2010.

Last but not least I wanted to include also an a-england polish here as I do have quite a few of these in my stash. Tristam and Lady of the Lake were the first a-england polishes in my stash and I do have both of them still. I have worn Tristam twice and Lady of the Lake too, but I still haven't posted about LotL... Shame on me! a-england is definately one of my favourite brands too, the quality is always soooo great and the colors are really awesome! I bought my first a-englands in the summer of 2011.

Misa Fountain of Youth and a fail manicure

Today I have a bit of a fail manicure for you guys... I thought that I wouldn't even post this, but then again I thought that I had gone through the trouble of making this, I should at least post it. So here it is...

This might not look like a total failure, but I didn't enjoy this mani at all! I think it went wrong from the beginning to the end... First off, Misa Fountain of Youth is a really gorgeous polish, but it's totally not suitable to my skintone. Also, I thought that adding I Love Nail Polish So Ghoul would make me like this mani more and hide a bit the fact that the Misa didn't suit me, but I didn't like the combo of the two polishes. And even though I have loved all other ILNP glitter toppers that I've tried, So Ghoul wasn't really my thing. Adding those dragon water decals didn't help either as they are not also my type of thing at all, but I thought since this wasn't really my type of manicure from the beginning, I might as well add them too. Oh well, it can't go right every time, right?!

I also took some pictures of Fountain of Youth alone as it is really soooo pretty and so that you can see the awesome shimmer it has!
I bought Fountain of Youth because I have Genie In This Bottle from the same collection and it's one of my favourite polishes of all time, so I thought I should try another polish from the same collection as all the polishes have the same type of shimmer in them. But like I said, I didn't like how this looked on me and it didn't really suit my skin tone, at least in real life it just looked wrong... I guess I will just cherish my Genie In This Bottle and leave the rest of the polishes from the same collection alone.

Misa Pirouette - Prima Ballerina Collection

Morning Everyone!
Today I have the last of the polishes from Misa  Prima Ballerina Collection to show you. This is the gorgeous pink Pirouette!

Misa Pirouette

This is the most discrete of the trio of pinks that make this collection. Again its a Creamy pink with an amazing formula. Super good to apply and with great pigmentation. 2 thin coats for full opacity. Around 5 mins drying time. The brush is very smooth and application easy.
Este último rosa do trio que compõe a colecção Prima Ballerina  é, como os irmãos, um lindíssimo rosa cremosa, sendo o mais discreto dos rosas.
A fórmula cremosa é excelente de aplicar, tem uma optima pigmentação, sendo apenas necessárias 2 finas  camadas para opacidader total aplicadas com um pincel de cerdas macias. Cerca de 5 mins de tempo de secagem.

Misa TopTOPPER Topcoat [Review]

This is a 5* top coat! Its on my top 5! (this top is coming soon too!)!
Its a great top coat. Does dry in around a min (Misa says it dries in 90s) and the shine is outstanding.
I have been using it in practically all my manicures for around a month now and I can barely see the fill line!

Este top coat é 5* ! Está sem duvida no meu top #5 top coats ( em breve no blog!)
É mesmo mesmo bom! Seca MESMO em cerca de 1min ( a Misa diz que seca em 90s) e eu concordo! O brilho é fantástico.
Estou a usar este menino em praticamente todas as minhas manicures ( e da mãe) há cerca de 1 mes e ainda mal vejo a linha de desgaste do top coat no frasquinho. 

This top coat will work with stamps too. No smudging or whatsoever. I actually had one manicure testing that but I can't remember for the sake of me what manicure was or if I took pictures and if I did where on earth (or folder) I put it! Damn damn memory!  Well.. you'll have to trust me.

O Misa topTOPPER é optimo para carimbos, não arrasta, não borra e seca muito rápido. Andei a testar a aplica-lo imediatamente após carimbar e nem assim arrasta. Pela minha memóriazinha maravilhosa não me lembro de que manicure foi essa, não me lembro se tirei fotos e mesmo que as tenha tirado não faço ideia de onde no mundo ( ou pasta) é que as pus! Oh cabeça a minha! Bem... anyway.. vão ter de confiar em mim porque fotos capofff *dps tiro mais*


It wont shrink any manicure either, no sheet mark problems, no bubbles and no tip wear for at least 4 days. 
Outros problemas comuns de top coats: bem o topTOPPER não encolhe a ponta da unha, não leva às pessimas marcas de lençol e osprimeiros sinais de desgaste só após 4 dias.. na minha mãe que é a pessoa que mais estraga unhas que eu conheço durou 2 dias e meio.. (para quem estraga gel em menos de 1 semana, é um record!).

Misa Prima Ballerina Collection - En Pointe

Hello ladies, how are you today?
I have yet another Misa nail polish to show you, from the Prima Ballerina Collection. I have already showed you Tutu and today I have En Pointe.
This is the darkest of the 3 colors that compose this collection.

oje trago-vos mais um dos 3 vernizes que compõem a colecção Prima Ballerina, da Misa. Já vos mostrei o Tutu aqui e hoje trago-vos o En Pointe( em pontas).
O En Pointe é o mais escuro dos rosas desta colecção. Vamos ver?

En Pointe

This is a dark/old pink polish with a super creamy and shiny finish. The formula is very  pigmented and because of that it took 2 very thin coats to reach full opacity! The nail gets covered with almost one coat but a 2nd one is always needed for perfect leverage and an homogeneous finish. The brush is very smooth and the application is super easy. This polish dries in around 4 mins without topcoat and in a min and a half with my new favorite top coat. MISA TOPtopper. I'll talk about it soon in a review post. 
Este lindíssimo Misa é o mais claro dos 3 rosas que compõem a colecção Prima Ballerina da Misa. O En Pointe (em pontas) tem um acabamento muito brilhante e uma fórmula cremosa e bastante pigmentada. Uma camada cobre a unha e a 2ª é necessário para nivelar e homogeinizar o acabamento de modo a que fique perfeito. O pincel tem cerdas macias que tornam  a aplicação muito simples. O verniz sozinho seca em cerca de 4 mins e com o meu mais novo favorito top coat demora 1min e 1/2 (90segundos) a secar! Estou apaixonada pelo TOPtopper da misa. Em breve faço-vos um post de review só sobre ele.






Mattifier

I applied one coat of Mattifier on my ring finger and as you can see the shine is gone but the finish is still very pretty. The nailart is quite simple and was done with a dotting tool, Misa Tutu and Misa En Pointe. 
Apliquei  uma camada do Misa Mattifier na unha do dedo anelar e como podem ver o brilho é removido mas o acabamento cremoso mantém-se. Creio que é um belo efeito. A Nailart é bastante simples e foi feita usando uma dotting tool e os Misa Tutu e o Misa En Poite.
