Vappu with White and Gems

Iloista Vappua! Happy first of May! Well, technically Vappu is tomorrow, but anyways. I've posted this last year, but I think most of you don't really know what Vappu is here in Finland, so this is what Wikipedia says:

In Finland, Walpurgis day (Vappu) is, along with New Year's Eve and Midsummer (Juhannus), the biggest carnival-style festival held in the streets of Finland's towns and cities. The celebration, which begins on the evening of 30 April and continues to 1 May, typically centres on copious consumption of sparkling wine and other alcoholic beverages.
(Read more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walpurgis_Night#Finland)

So Vappu is really a great celebration here, but I'm not actually doing anything special. I'm just spending quality time with my boyfriend. :) But at least I wanted to do some Vappu nails, something colorful and fun:

I know you've probably seen this look quite many times already, but I thought that this is just perfect for Vappu. I used Mavala White and Milani Gems and of course base and top coat. I think this is really fun and colorful look, just the way I wanted.

OPI Meet Me On the Star Ferry

Today I have have one color for you that I've been eyeing for some time but never ordered it until just recently.

So this is OPI Meet Me On the Star Ferry, I have three coat here with top coat (sorry about the smudge on my index nail, don't know where that came from). Well, this is pretty color and wearing it made me feel like I was really sophisticated.. But I was a bit disappointed, I was kind of hoping that it would be even more pretty or something. It's certainly nice polish but in the end it's quite boring..

Semmarit inspired manicure

Just while ago I went to Seminaarinmäen Mieslaulajat (shortly Semmarit) concert and bought their new DVD from that concert, so I've been listening (and watching) them a lot lately. Semmarit is one of my all time favourite 'bands' (if you can call them a band) and I've been to their concert several times. Semmarit is like this Finnish man choir on steroids, you can't really explain it, you have to see for you self.. But I can tell you that they are really good, I just can't help but love them and wish I get to see many more concerts by them in the future.

Here's a video if you want to see what I'm talking about:

Well, anyways, I wanted to do a manicure inspired of Semmarit and of course I had to do some black jackets with bows as it is their main outfit.

I did bows in different colors (there's abow in my ring finger too, it's white and doesn't show very well), because I wanted them to represent my favourite singers in Semmarit and I used the colors that they usually wear. (Red is for Hannu S., black is for Turkka, white is for Sakari and dark green is for Joel). I thought this was really fun idea, though it probably isn't something that everybody understands..

Color Club Ulterior Motive

Today I have the last polish that I have from Color Club Alter Ego collection. Well, I did order fourth one (Secret Agent) but the bottle was broken when it got to me and couldn't be saved in any way, so I only have three. But at least it was probably the least favourite one that broke and it was really the first polish ever that was broken when delivered, so I knew that would eventually happen at some point.. But here's Ulterior Motive:

So this is three coats with base and top coat. Very pretty color and quality was also really good. I feel like I have like zillion glitter/glass fleck pinks/magentas/what ever but I just can't resist colors like this and also they always look really good. I have to say that I really liked all three colors that I have from Color Club Alter Ego collection, all three had nice quality and they all were really nice colors. So thumbs up for Color Club, I think the other colors from this collection look very nice too and if I was made of money I would have bought them all, at least all from the Keep it under cover set.

Easter manicure

As promised, I have Easter manicure for you today. I wanted to do something with pastel colors and here's the result:

So I used (again) scotch tape and the colors I used were Color Club Pardon My French and China Glaze Re-Fresh Mint & Lemon Fizz. The white bunny is made with nail art liner and then I added also some half pearls. I had to add the bunny because before that these nails didn't look so easter-y.. Anyways, I think the final result was quite cute and at least somewhat recognisable as easter nails.

Blog Anniversary!

It was my blog's one year anniversary yesterday, well, technically day before yesterday because it's already past midnight, but anyways. I planed to do a post then, but I totally forgot what date it was. Well, better later than never, right? I really didn't want this day to go by without mentionin anything, because it really means a lot to me. Year ago I just created this blog in the heat of the moment and I really wasn't sure if I would keep it up or more importantly if anyone would be interested in reading it. I was also really unsure about blogging in english as it isn't my mother language, but from the beginning I thought that blogging in English would make the most sense. I think my English has become much better because of writing this blog and reading other blogs, I've even learned many words that I really didn't know before, nail polish related and regular words. My English isn't by all means perfect and I probably have mistakes in every text, but at least I don't have to check how every other word is written any more.. I think that that's really nice, but more importantly this blog and everything related to it has become a important part of my life and I really wanna thank you all who read and comment, it really means a lot to me!

I thought that because of the anniversary I could just share some manicures that I've done during the last year. Tomorrow I have some easter nails for you, but for now, these are some of my favourite manis, that I've shown you here in this blog.

So again, thanks for every single one of my awesome readers! I just recently passed 300 readers and that really wonderful! I hope every single one of you will enjoy reading my blog in the future too.

Essence Out of My Mind

I have another new Essence polish for you today, and again, I got this from the swap I did just while ago. I don't wanna complain, but I just have to say that I really hate my camera right now. I have just this reagular camera, nothing fancy and lately it hasn't really been working properly. Most of the pics aren't really focused enough, well they seem so when you look at them from the camera screen, but as I upload them to my computer I see that the pictures aren't really good. And at that point I have usually already changed my manicure so there's no way to take more pictures.. Oh well, hope I can somehow get a new camera soon or something.

But let's just go to the polish, shall we..

This is Essence Out of My Mind and I have three coats here, with base and top coat. Last pic is taken with flash to show you more of the green side of this polish. So this is another nice duochrome polish by Essence, though this isn't as obvious duochrome as Where is the Party? was. Lately I've found myself getting more into blue polishes, though as I wear them, I can't always decide if they are me or not. It was like that with this polish too, I really liked the color and it looked really good too, but I just couldn't decide if I was comfortable wearing blue or not. At least my boyfriend liked the color a lot, he's generally into blues. :) But it's very nice polish and if you like blue/green polishes even just a bit and have access to Essence, I think you should get this one.

Essence Where Is the Party?

I have one of the new Essence polishes for you today. I also got this from the awesome swap. This will be just a short post with lots of pics, it was the parliamentary election day today in Finland and well, the election was infact quite bizarre and I'm still a bit confused about the results, especially for the huge procent that the True Finns party got. I'm not one to judge, but I just don't understand how so many people have voted for them.. So anyways, I've been just watching tv for the results all evening and my head is still spinning, so let's just go to the polish shall we..

So this is Essence Where Is the Party? and this is three coats with base and top coat. Sorry about the fact that some of the pics aren't exactly focused, my camera hasn't really been working lately and I'm thinking I need to get new one soon. But the polish is really nice purple/green duochrome and well, I really like colors like this and this isn't any exception. Lovely polish, nice quality, I only wish these were available here in Finland.

I also tried this with China Glaze Matte Magic and I think it looked good both matte and shiny:

Milani Purple Gleam tape mani

I have another scotch tape mani for you today. This time I also used craft scissors for the mani, inspiration again taken from Erika at Chloe's Nails. I bought these scissors long time ago for Christmas card crafting and now I found another use for the scissors, which is always nice.

I used Milani Purple Gleam and Essence Berlin Story. I also wanted to see how it would look matte, so I added one coat of China Glaze Matte Magic:

Well, I think it looked better before adding the matte top coat and this look didn't really work for me. But that's what is good whit these matte top coats, if you don't like it, you can always add another coat of regular top coat or quick dryer to get it back to shiny again. So that's what I did, because it looked way better that way..

Here's some pics of Milani Purple Gleam by herself:

I included one blurry pic to show you the sparkle. Purple Gleam is a part of Milani's One Coat Glitters collection and this was almost good with one coat, but really needed two to get it even out and avoid bald spots. But anyways, it's really good for a glitter polish and as it is glitter, it dries really fast, so I don't think it's anyway problem to do two coats. It's not probably any surprise that I love this, it's glitter and it's purple, so yeah, it's a winner for me.

Spring manicure

Today I have you a spring manicure gone wrong. I had this beautiful idea in my head about these pink/yellow nails with some colorful butterflies, but my execution wasn't good and the outcome wasn't exactly how I thought it would be. Oh well, it can't always go as you think, right? First I thought I wouldn't even photograph these or post this manicure, but then I thought that every mani don't have to perfect and maybe someone could even learn from my mistakes. I sure did. So, here we go:

I have only this one pic to show you and even it is not fully focused, I guess I wasn't really inspired to take good pictures of this mani. And yes, I know that those fime slices are way too thick and that's the main reason this mani wasn't really working the way I thought it would. Also I tried to fit too many butterflies on one nail, or at least I think that's the one reason too why this isn't really working. But this was good learning experiment, now I know that I really should try to cut those fimos very very thin, if I want to achieve anything I have pictured in my head. Also one thing to remember (which probably should have been already clear to my but I'm sometimes impatient) is that you should really wait for the polishes to dry before trying to place any fimos on your nails. And the polish should really be dry, not just semi-dry or something like that. And last but not least, maybe it would be could idea to rehearse the arregement of those fimos before placing them with top coat, the manicure is ruined if you try to move them after that. But as I said you can't always get it right..

Oh, I almost forgot, if someone is interested I used Essence Love This City (I Love Berlin LE) and Rimmel Lemon Drop for this mani. Here's a pic of Love This City by herself:

This was really pretty coral pink, I have just one coat here, so it was quite opaque too, though if I was going to wear this alone, I would use two coats. The quality was good also, nothing  to complain here. It's not terribly unique polish, there are many similar colors, I'm sure, but it's special as I got it from this lovely swap and also as it's a part of I Love Berlin collection. So it has a special place in my heart for sure, lol.

Color Club Alter Ego

Today I have another polish from Color Club Alter Ego collection for you, this time it's the collections namesake. Take a look:

This is three coats with base and top coat, I also added some rhinestones to ring fingers (first two pics). I had little bit of shrinkage, sorry about that. Anyways, I think this is pretty unique color, or at least I dont have anything like it in my collection. It's foil and it's pruple, so I think I'm forced to love it. It's also easy to work with and really pretty too, so another winner from this collection!
