31DC13 Day 22: Inspired by a song

Today I'm finally continuing the challenge! I really thought I would have had this one finished before the new year, so I have tittled all my post about the challenge to the year 2013... I think I'm going to continue with that anyhow. 

I'm showing you a song inspired mani today that wasn't actually inspired by a song in the first place... BUT while I was making it this one song kept playing in my head constantly and so I thought this would be still perfect mani for today's task. I actually made this mani for a nail art contest, which I unfortunately didn't win though. Lunalii won the contest with her gorgeous french mani and she got to make an awesome trip to New York!

Maybe I'll get to visit New York in the future too! At least now I have visited it in the form of nail art:
So quite obviously I took my inspiration for this mani from New York itself and the song that kept playing in my head... You probably already guessed it, but it is of course Alicia Keys' Empire State Of Mind (Part II):




And here's what I used for these nails:

I wasn't totally happy with this one, but I was in a bit hurry making it, so I didn't really have time to redo anything. But at least the connection to the song is quite obvious.

Two years ago I got inspired by on of my all time favourite band's song: Coldplay's Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall and made this colorful splatter mani:

Haaste jatkuu vihdoin ja viimein! Oletin kyllä vahvasti tätä aloittaessani syksymmällä, että saan haasteen kevyesti tehtyä vuoden loppuun mennessä, mutta eihän se nyt ihan mennytkään niin... Noh, aion joka tapauksessa tehdä tämän innolla loppuun! Tänään oli siis haasteena inspiroitua laulusta ja esittelenkin teille manikyyrin, jota tehdessä sain aivan toivottoman korvamadon.

Oikeastaan lähdin tekemään näitä kynsiä kynsikisaa varten, enkä varsinaisesti alunperin suunnitellut näitä tämän haasteen kynsiksi, mutta ajattelin, että nämä sopisivat tähän kuitenkin täydellisesti. Kynsiin on siis luonnollisesti haettu inspiraatio New Yorkista ja se toivoton korvamato oli tottakai Alicia Keysin Empire State Of Mind. Ihan täysin tyytyväinen en kyllä näihin kynsiin ollut ja eipä näillä harmittavasti voittokaan irronnut. Toivottavasti pääsen kuitenkin vierailemaan New Yorkissa joskus tulevaisuudessa kuitenkin!

Kaksi vuotta sitten inspiroiduin yhden suosikkibändini laulusta, Coldplay Every Teardrop Is a Waterfallista ja toteutin laulun videota mukaillen värikkään roiskemanikyyrin (kurkkaa postaus täältä).

Christmas French with China Glaze Ruby Pumps

I know I said yesterday that it was going to be my last post before Christmas, but I decided I needed to post this mani too before the Holidays are all over as this is quite a Christmassy mani. 

China Glaze Ruby Pumps is really an ultimate Christmas nail polish and I have tried to use it in some way around every Christmas as it's quite difficult to wear it outside the holidays. So of course for this year I needed to create something with this polish too and this time I decided to do a Christmassy french manicure.

I started this mani with two coats of Essence Cotton Candy. Then I did the tips with two coats of China Glaze Ruby Pumps. After that I dabbed some Wet n Wild Kaleidoscope and Lumene Diamonds in the Night on the other side of my nails. Then finally I added those metallic snow flakes to each nail using top coat.

 
I have gotten these snow flakes (pattern 105#) for review from Born Pretty Store. They are quite big, but not too big if you ask me. Also I love the fact that they are very flat so you can easily bend them a bit to fit the curve on your nail. Also they stay quite flat on nail. The only thing I didn't like so much was the fact that at least in this design there are those thin and pointy ends in the snowflake which tend to stick out. I tried quite hard to seal them with top coat and carefully push them towards the nail, but still they tended to stick out and get stuck on clothes and hair and stuff like that. So if I'd had to choose again, I'd choose a design where the edges are more rounded as these metal decorations are still a really nice idea and I'd like to try out some other designs.


 
Overall I really liked this mani and it would have been a perfect one to have on during the holidays. Unfortunately I had to remove it after wearing for a day as those snow flakes got stuck on everywhere and so I ended up doing a blue toned Christmas manicure (which I'll hopefully show you some other time).

Päätin vielä pikaisesti julkaista yhdet joulukynnet, jottei näitä kaikkia tarvitsisi työntää ulos sitten vasta joulun jälkeen. China Glazen Ruby Pumps on ainakin minulle ehdoton joululakka, jolla täytyy päästä lakkaamaan joka joulu. Tällä kertaa päätin tehdä ranskalaisen manikyyrin Ruby Pumpsilla. Lisäsin lakkaukseen joulun tuntua myös töpöttelemällä kahta eri glitteriä, Wet n Wildin Kaleidoscopea ja Lumenen Diamonds in the Nightia ja kruunaamalla lakkauksen BPS:n metallisilla lumihiutaleilla. Vähähän sitä olisi toivonut, että lumihiutaleita olisi näkynyt tänä jouluna jossain muuallakin kuin kynsillä, varsinkin täällä eteläisessä Suomessa, jonne suuntasin joulunviettoon, ei tosiaan lumesta ole tietoakaan...

Kynnet oli kyllä todella mieleiset, harmittavasti jouduin vain poistamaan ne heti seuraavana päivänä, kun noiden lumihiutaleiden sakarat ei millään tykänneet pysyä kynttä vasten vaan lähtivät koko ajan törröttämään tarttuen ihan kaikkeen. Eli ensi kerralla aion kyllä valita sellaisen mallin näistä metallisista koristeista, joissa ei ole pitkiä ja ohuita ulkonevia ulokkeita reunimmaisena.

Hyvää joulua jo toistamiseen kaikille ja palaillaan muutaman päivän päästä.

Depend #135 with Wet n Wild Kaleidoscope

Today I have a simple glitter gradient for you:

I used Depend number 135 as the base. It was a really easy to work with and I really liked the color. It is a jelly so there was a bit of VNL after three coats, so I decided to add some glitter to make the nail line disappear. And I do love some glittery tips so I enjoyed this mani very much.

I hate to start a blog post with apology, but I'm really sorry that it's been over a week since my last post. I was working with the advance voting for our presidental elections and had to work like ten hours a day for seven days straight. So you can imagine that I was quite tired in the evening. Also I had this one essay that I had to do while working, but luckily my lecturer was kind enough and I was able to move the returning date to yesterday, so with all that I really had no time to do any posts. And the elections will be tomorrow and if none of the candidates receive more than half of the votes there will be a second round and then I have to do another seven days of working. It is very possible that this will happen and this time I'm planning to do some post beforehand and time them for you, so don't worry. But that's all, I just wanted to let you know what the situation was, lol. Let's move on to the polish, shall we..

Today I have one really pretty polish for you that was really a pain in the butt to photograph and it still doesn't look quite like it should, but here it is anyhow.


So this is two coats of a-england Avalon and like I said, it looks too blue here in my pics (or at least it does on my screen). It is more red toned in reality. It is a quite awesome polish as it was really easy to work with and the color is also so pretty. I can't really wait to see what the new collection from a-england will look like!

I also did a little glitter gradient with Avalon as my base and Wet n Wild Kaleidoscope as the glitter:

China Glaze Papaya Punch and Wet 'n Wild Kaleidoscope

I have another polish from China Glaze Island Escape collection for you today:


So this one is called Papaya Punch and I have two coats here with base and top coat. This was little on the thick side, but nothing that couldn't be fixed with nail polish thinner. I just have to say I'm in love with this color. It's so pretty and summery, I almost felt like eating my nails, they looked so juicy, lol. And can you believe, this is my first really orange polish, ever! I think I really need to get some more nice orange polishes. So what do you think, which orange polishes should I get?

I really loved Papaya punch by herself, but I also wanted to spice it up just a little bit with some glitter polish, so I used one coat of Wet 'n Wild Kaleidoscope:

I think PP looked really good with Kaleidoscope too, they were really nice combo. And I just had to wear this mani for several days, it was so sunny and pretty, I just couldn't remove it until it started to wear of.
