The Great Sephora Giveaway!! ::CLOSED::

Hello my lovely followers both old and new. I am so happy to say I just hit over 100 followers here on the blog and over 200 on my Tumblr. You gals are so amazing, and I am so very thankful to each and every one of you! You keep me posting week after week. I'm hoping this giveaway will show you just how thankful I truly am.

The Great Sephora Giveaway will have two prizes and two winners! The first winner will receive a $50 Sephora gift card. Yes, you read that right! $50 to spend at your local Sephora or on Sephora.com.

The second winner will receive a $10 Sephora gift card. Okay, so it's not $50, but look on the bright side. That's $10 that doesn't come out of your pocket!

I purchased these gift cards through Swagbucks by taking various surveys, completing offers, and other such tasks. If you decide to sign up for Swagbucks for yourself you can use the code SBISONTHEGO during your sign up for an additional 60 swagbucks on top of the normal 30 you get just for signing up. This will give you a great start with 90 swagbucks. This code is only valid until Friday, August 3rd at 11:59 pm P.T. so sign up quick!

::NEED TO KNOW::
This giveaway is open internationally, however Swagbucks says Canadian residents can only use these cards in Sephora stores. I repeat, these gift cards are not valid for purchases on Sephora.com to Canadian residents. I recommend my other international followers to check with your local Sephora if you have any doubts you can use these gift cards. Just because I say it's open internationally doesn't mean your Sephora can't still refuse to take them. Still, did I mention these gift cards don't expire? Free money with no expiration date?? Cool, right?

This giveaway will run from Wednesday, August 1st to Saturday, September 1st. Winners will be announced shortly after, once I have had a chance to go through the entries.

Last but not least, I will send out winning emails to two lucky followers shortly after giveaway ends. Winners have 24 hours to reply before I choose a new winner. These gift cards are e-gift cards so they will be sent to your email after I receive confirmation. However, if the winners prefer I can also print and mail them.

#2 Finger Painted Contest- Dromedary Caravan

Hello everyone!

This is part 2 of my Finger Painted Contest series. We are now moving from the South Pole (entry #1) to Africa.  Now we have reached the Sahara desert, as you hopefully can see from the photos. Here is my entry #2:

Entry # 2 from Lani

Entry # 2 from Lani

On all nails there are dromedary camels walking (and carrying stuff on their hump), sand dunes, and date palm trees. On the thumb I painted a man who walks with a dromedary on a leash.

Entry # 2 from Lani
My inspiration: A photo cut out of a calendar that I got for Christmas, with photos from the desert of south Tunisia. You can see the photo below. Memories after riding dromedary a long time ago.

(I don't know the name of the photographer.)

Nail polish used:

Orlane: #91 (dark gold)
Missha: HGR #01 (green)
OPI: Lady in Black (black)
Deborah Lippmann: Boom Boom Pow (gold glitter)
IsaDora: #852 Metal Mystery (copper-brown magnetic) with wave pattern magnet

Cult Nails: Get It On (base coat)
Cult Nails: Wicked Fast (topcoat)

Entry # 2 from Lani

I had hoped to get some more manicures ready. I had tons of ideas, but it was more difficult than I had expected. I actually made four more manicures, but they didn't look good on the photos. And now there is no more time for the other animals I had been thinking about. So I hope Lexi will have the same theme in her next competition! It was such a fun theme.

#1 Finger Painted Contest- Emperor Penguins

Hello everyone!

Finger Painted is celebrating 400 followers with a nail art contest and a giveaway. What's very special about this contest is that we can enter as many times as we like! So this is my entry #1.

The theme is anything safari/ jungle/ animal inspired. I really liked the theme, and it has made me think and think. I've had very many ideas, but it was more difficult to paint on my nails than I had expected. So my first entry is one I made in April for Penguin Day:

Entry #1 from Lani

Entry #1 from Lani

These are emperor penguins. The ones with yellow on their necks are grown ups, the one swimming is a juvenile, and the grey ones are chicks.

In this competition we are asked to tell about our inspiration.

My inspiration: I have seen the movie "March of the Penguins", some YouTube videos like the one about Lola who lived in Japan, and the story about Happy Feet who was saved from a beach in New Zealand. To draw these penguins I looked at some photos.

Thank you Lexi for having this contest/ giveaway! Congratulations on getting 400 followers!

On Safari: Purr-fect Plum

Hello lovelies! I bring good news, great news even! The prizes for my upcoming giveaway have arrived and I will be spending tomorrow setting up the post and Rafflecopter so be on the lookout August 1st.

With that awesome news, I bring you today's post. I know it can't really compare, but I hope you enjoy another On Safari swatch.

This is Purr-fect Plum. I thought it really was going to be the most perfect of plums but it went on so much darker than I was expecting. The color was much lighter in the bottle but went on the deep, dark color of an actual plum fruit.

On Safari is a China Glaze fall collection however, so this color will be perfect for Autumn. I actually have the perfect matching outfit already and can think of another handful of ways to use this color.

Here is a look at Purr-fect Plum in direct sunset lighting. Is this not a really gorgeous color? I can just imagine how wonderful this will look surrounded by brightly colored leaves or even against the brightness of snow.

The only thing besides Fall that could make it better is nail art! As I said in my previous post, I'm hoping to continue with a tribal theme. This isn't the design I had sketched out, but I think it works somehow.

It's a bit of an odd design, isn't it? Maybe not fully tribal ... it actually kind of reminds me of a door. A heavy wooden door? A castle door? I don't know but whatever it is, I like it.

OPI Lady in Black+ Deborah Lippmann Private Dancer+ Cult Nails Seduction

Hello everyone!

(If the photos appear to be too far to the right, please use Google Chrome!)

OPI Lady in Black+ Deborah Lippmann Private Dancer+ Cult Nails Seduction

Today I just want to show you what I was wearing in a birthday on Friday. I had a very limited time to get ready, so please don't look at the scratches and the too quick clean- up. But I liked this "dark purple with flakies look" so much that I took some photos of it when I came home.

I was going to wear a pink top and white trousers. I had thought about wearing a pink nail polish, but not that eye catching, perhaps just a medium pink like GOSH Bubble Gum. But instead I decided to wear Cult Nails Seduction over Deborah Lippmann's Private Dancer, because I feel comfortable wearing purple, and thought the pink/ red flakies in Seduction would match the top.

I had prepared my nails with black, to try to make an animal themed nail art entry. But I didn't get time for that and the other things I had planned. And then I got a chance to meet my brother, whom I hadn't seen for a while. So to save time I just put one coat of Private Dancer over the black I was wearing, and ran out of the house to meet him. I realised that my right hand looked really bad, and that I would have to redo it before the birthday, but I didn't have time to change both hands. I also didn't have time to do 2 coats of black (OPI Lady in Black), but managed to make the right hand look quite similar to the left, using H&M Hello Kitty "I love Candy", Private Dancer and Seduction, although it didn't get as dark as the left hand. I was so stressed that I can't remember if I put an extra coat of Private Dancer on my left hand. But I layered Seduction over it, cleaned up around the nails as fast as I could, and slapped on Wicked Fast, and was luckily able to change cloths without ruining my manicure. I actually saw that the polish on one nail had moved a little, and looked wrinkly, but managed to drag it into place. Anyway, you 'll just see the left hand in this post.

And here are some more flower photos.

Here are the nail polishes I used:

Deborah Lippmann Private Dancer, Cult Nails Seduction (middle), OPI Lady in Black

OPI: "Lady in Black"
Deborah Lippmann: "Private Dancer"
Cult Nails: "Seduction"
and Cult Nails base- and top coat ("Get It On" and "Wicked Fast").

Deborah Lippmann Private Dancer, Cult Nails Seduction, OPI Lady in Black

For those of you who are not familiar with these polishes, I'll tell a bit about them:

OPI: Lady in Black: black cream. I used 2 coats to get it opaque, and a third to make the surface more even. In addition I had to use a top coat to make the surface look nice and even. I bought it on sale in January, and it's my only black cream nail polish. I use it as a base, if I need a black base for nail art or something.

OPI Lady in Black+ Deborah Lippmann Private Dancer+ Cult Nails Seduction

Deborah Lippmann: Private Dancer: purple multichrome. It is sheer, so I have usually used 3 coats. But it's not as sheer as the Ozotic mulitchromes. But this time, when I tried it over black, one coat made a dark very beautiful purple. My nails look as if I have put purple aluminium foil on them. (Not that I've seen that anywhere.) You can use Private Dancer over black if you want to achieve a darker color, and over black or similar colors to use fewer coats of polish. But I also like Private Dancer on its own. I have used it some times, but struggle to capture the color with my camera. I have read many descriptions of the color shift, but on its own, I find that it changes from purple to purple- brown. And the color looks more toned down in the evening or inside. One of the times that I was wearing it on its own, I stopped to look at some polishes, and a manicurist who worked there said my nail polish looked like a chameleon, and asked what I was wearing, and asked all her colleagues to get up and look at my nails. I didn't expect to get that much attention... The green flakies in Seduction looks fantastic over private Dancer, so I think I will try a blue/ green flakie over it next time. Private Dancer was released this spring together with two other mirrored chromes, and you can see them together on a nail wheel in my post about what I bought in April. If you want to see comparison bottle- photos, you'll find them there too.

OPI Lady in Black+ Deborah Lippmann Private Dancer+ Cult Nails Seduction

Cult Nails: Seduction: a sheer purple jelly base with red and blue flakies that shift to green. Especially now in front of the PC they look green when I hold my hands in odd angles. Over Private Dancer, the blue flakies were hardly visible. The first time I tried Seduction, I wanted to see what it looked like over beige/ nude. But it took many coats to get closer to the bottle color. It looked fantastic on the photos, but not in real life. (And I like pastel purples.) I was a bit disappointed by that, and didn't try it over pink, as I had planned to do next. So I think I will layer it over a medium dark purple cream next time. Seduction is very different from Nfu- Oh 51: The Nfu- Oh doesn't have blue flakies, and the Nfu- Oh has micro glitter with the same color shift as its flakies. Also Seduction has a little bit bigger flakies, but not as many as Nfu- Oh 51. I don't own Finger Paints Asylum, but that is the only flakie polish I could think of that could have similar flakies to Seduction, but Asylum has a clear base. Seduction is often compared to a discontinued Cult Nails polish called Clairvoyant or Unicorn Puke. (I love the name "Unicorn Puke", and don't understand why they changed it to "Clairvoiant".) I've never seen it in person, but if I've understood it correctly they both have a purple base but not exactly the same, and they have similar flakies, but Seduction has less green flakies. Seduction is the first Cult Nails nail polish that I've tried. I bought it together with a base coat and a fast drying top coat, "Get It On" and "Wicked Fast", and I'm very pleased with them. You can see photos of them in the post about what I bought in May and June. I hurried to buy Seduction because it's limited edition, and although I couldn't find it on the animal organizations lists, I hope I can trust that Cult Nails products are cruelty- free when they say so on their web cite. Seduction is from the Divas and Drama collection. It's possible to buy this collection of four polishes (which is on sale at time of writing), or to just buy a bottle of Seduction as I did.

OPI Lady in Black+ Deborah Lippmann Private Dancer+ Cult Nails Seduction

The most beautiful way to wear Seduction that I've seen so far, is as a base for butterfly- inspired nails. I would like to try that some time. Here you can see it done at Sincerely Stephanie. I also want to try to paint black tiger stripes over Private Dancer some time. That also looked very beautiful. Here you can see that done at Set In Lacquer.

I don't know if you've noticed, but my pinkie nail looks nearly broken. I had a little accident when I  put on new sheets. It hurt a lot then, and it felt as if the whole nail got bent.

OPI Lady in Black+ Deborah Lippmann Private Dancer+ Cult Nails Seduction

Now I've written much more than I had planned to do... I think it's time to stop. Here are the photos I took yesterday:

It was harder to get the camera to photograph the purple color in daylight. The color looks more blue on these photos than in real life.

Claire's Excited/Bored

Today I have just a quick post for you with one of Claire's mood polishes.

I know that these color changing polishes are old news to many of you, but here in Finland these are not really available anywhere, so I was quite excited when I grabed this one from Konad-licious blog sale (quite a long time ago though). I really enjoyed wearing this and seeing all the color changes and I wish I had more pictures for you with all the different looks that you can have with this polish. The thing is that this this chipped really fast, so I only managed to take this one pic and I was planning on taking some others later, but then it was too late, because I had at least two major chips on two different nails. But I think these polishes are really an easy way to get a little bit different look than just a one color look, so if these were more easily available, I would probably get more.

Go For The Gold

I am so excited about the Olympics this year. It's never been a big deal before but something about this year just seems different to me. I was actually so excited that I did these nails weeks ago! However, I wanted to save them for today. The qualifying rounds are over and the Opening Ceremony is tonight!

I'm from the United States, born and raised, so I felt obligated to do Go For The Gold: USA nails. However, if you support another country simply swap the red, white and blue used for my nails for your chosen countries colors. It's a very simple gradient. I used my trusty eyeshadow applicator to dab on two coats of red and blue, top and bottom, before dabbing on some white between them. I went back with red or blue where the white covered too much.

Who else is excited about the Olympics? Have you watched the qualifying rounds? Will you be scheduling your lives in an attempt to catch as much of the Olympics as you can? Will you be on the lookout for only certain events? How many of you are going to try avoiding the Olympics all together? I know I will attempt to watch a little bit of everything, but my mom will be avoiding everything to do with the Olympics.

China Glaze No Way Jose

Today I have one of my long time lemmings to show you: China Glaze No Way Jose!

And what a pretty thing it is! I've wanted to have this polish for quite a while and when I finally saw it on ebay for a reasonable price, I had to grab it. And I'm really glad I did, because this is really gorgeous and I love it, espacially the shimmer in it. It's also really fun and bright, so it's quite suitable for summer though the weather hasn't really been so fun and bright here. Maybe it's going to be better, at least the sun is shining now.

On Safari: Desert Sun

Hello again lovelies! Another day, another On Safari polish swatch.

This one is Desert Sun. I am amazed at the pictures I managed to get with my new camera. I'm sure my old camera would have turned this lovely shade some vastly different color, but I am beyond happy to say that my new camera managed to capture the shade nearly perfectly.

The color of Desert Sun is hard to categorize. It's a very muddy orange color, not unlike sun-baked clay. I think the closest shade I've found through Wikipedia is one of the many tawny shades.

I decided to keep with the tribal theme. I'm thinking of carrying this theme through almost the entire collection seeing as these colors are just so perfect for tribal art. The exceptions would of course be those colors I don't have (yet) and the glitters.

Desert Sun was so much better than I expected and it looked wonderful with this tribal design; I didn't want to take it off! When I first showed interest in this color it was simply as a base for the glitters of this collection, but I see now that it can be so much more!

Not Very Summery Spam

Okay, so I have had these three pics of three different manis in my stockpile of pics for a long time and I've always felt that these weren't nice enough pictures to post and so I have posted something else. Now I really want to get rid of these, so here it is, a little spam with not very summery colors:

 Nail Tek Foundation II
Zoya Mikka two coats
Seche Vite

This is a quite nice color and the quality was also great as usual with Zoya, but somehow this was still a bit meh to me. It is quite hard and expensive to buy any Zoya polishes here, so I kinda expect them to be something special and this wasn't special enough for me. It is a pretty color but nothing more.

Nail Tek Foundation II
Zoya Mikka two coats
Flormar U34 two coats
Seche Vite

After wearing Mikka alone I tried to spice it up a bit with Flormar U34, but this didn't really work for me either. The color looked really good in the bottle but on nail it is too dark and it looked too black for me.

Misa BACKbone
China Glaze Instant Chemistry two coats
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat

I did like the color of this China Glaze Instant Chemistry, because I thought there was nice contrast between the color that comes through when you use the magnet and the darker color. But the reason why I didn't post this before was the fact that I couldn't get the magnet to work like I wanted it to and the star shape wasn't really showing on each nail like it should be. I think that the China Glaze magnet is in fact quite weak, so that's probably the reason why I had hard time with it. Also, I really should practice more.

Dark magnetic with pink or green shimmer: IsaDora #855 Northern Light

Hello everyone!

(If the photos appear to be too far to the right, please use Google Chrome)

IsaDora #855 Northern Light

After the solar storm about two weeks ago, they said on the news that it could be possible to see northern lights (aurora borealis) even further south than normal. So I painted my nails with IsaDora #855 "Northern Lights" on the 14th of July. I hoped to be able to photograph the nail polish with the sky full of northern lights as a background. Every night for some days I looked up at the sky, on both sides of the house, but there was nothing special to see...

IsaDora #855 Northern Light

The polish Northern Lights has the same colors as the sky with northern lights (or southern lights). It is very dark, with green and pink. Most of the time you can see the pink shimmer. Sometimes the pink shimmer shifts to green, especially in the shade or inside in low light. And then it isn't easy to photograph. And sometimes I couldn't see any shimmer. The sun really made the red shimmer visible.

IsaDora #855 Northern Light
IsaDora #855 Northern Light

As you can see on the photos, the darkness of the polish also varied a bit.

IsaDora #855 Northern Light

IsaDora #855 Northern Light

The two photos below showes the green shimmer. It's possible to click on the picture to make it bigger.

IsaDora #855 Northern Light

IsaDora #855 Northern Light

I wanted to try all the four IsaDora magnets. Both to see if they were equally strong, and to do something new (to me). So now you can see which one you like best, and which patterns make the nail look longer, wider, and so on.

IsaDora #855 Northern Light

As I have mentioned earlier, the IsaDora magnetics are supposed to be one- coaters. And this one is. Or maybe I've just learned how much polish to put on each nail... If you experience bold spots, try to put one more coat of polish on, and use the magnet again.

If you want to see the magnets, there is a photo in my latest haul post. I have written about IsaDora's magnetic nail polishes and how they work in the post about the green one, IsaDora #854 Opposites Attract.
