31DC13 Day 20: Water Marble

I'm finally at the day 20 for the challenge and I get to post my water marble. I actually did this water marbling for the I Love Me -event over a month ago, but I was saving the mani for this challenge as I figured I probably wouldn't have time to do another proper water marbling mani for this challenge.

I used four different Essie polishes for this look: Blanc* as my base color and I did the actual marbling with Maximillian Strasse Her*, Naughty Nautical, Mind Your Mittens* and Blanc. I have the habbit of adding some sparkle to pretty much all my water marbling manicures and so I added some China Glaze Fairy Dust on top of the mani.

I really liked how this water marbling turned out. There are some smudges and some imperfections there, but I didn't mind those too much. I also got some compliments about this mani at the event, which is of course always nice!


Essie polishes work quite well for water marbling, but they dry out quite quickly so you can't really take too much time making the pattern. I think there are some other brands and polishes that I have tried that have worked even better for this, but at least these Essie polishes were managable.

I think these colors went really well together and eventhough I used polishes from spring and summer collection (one from winter too), I thought this was quite appropriate look for a fall manicure.

Haaste jatkuu ja vuorossa päivä 20 ja vesimarmorointi. Pääsin vihdoin julkaisemaan I Love Me -messuja varten tekemäni kynnet, joita olen säästellyt tätä haastetta varten kun ajattelin etten kuitenkaan kerkiä tekemään uusia kunnollisia vesimarmorointeja tähän haasteeseen. Näistä tuli omasta mielestäni todella kivat, vaikka onnistuinkin saamaan pieniä sotkuja pariin kynteen. Värit sointuivat kivasti yhteen ja kynnet olivat jotenkin mukavan syksyiset vaikka ne olivat samalla myös kimaltelevat ja värikkäät.

Kahden vuoden takainen vesimarmorointi onnistui myös kivasti ja siinä tykkäsin erityisesti myös tuosta väriyhdistelmästä. Turkoosin ja kullan yhdistelmä on mielestäni jotenkin hirmu nätti!

Essie Maximillian Strasse Her and Madison Ave-hue with Water Decals

I have already shown you my swatches of Essie's spring collection that I got for review from L'Oreal Finland, but I just keep using the polishes over and over again if I need something quick and easy. The polishes are so easy to apply with the wide brush that Essie polishes have here in Finland, so all the six polishes from the spring collection have been my go to polishes for easy manicures and this was the case with this mani too.

I needed something pink and grey under some feather water decals* that I got for review from Born Pretty Store, so I chose Maximillian Strasse Her* and Madison Ave-hue*. I used two coats of both of Maximillian Strasse Her and Madison Ave-hue and then applied some pink and grey feather water decals over the opposite colors. 

The water decals went really well with the two Essie polishes and I really liked how this mani looked! I usually love all the nail art and stickers and decals that have feather designs, especially those hand painted feather designs, but these decals are also an easy way to achieve that feather look. These decals were also really easy to use and the quality was quite nice as these aren't those decals that are too thin to use. These also allowed you to move them a bit on nail after placing them, so you can get them just where you want them, but they sticked on really well too. I was a bit affraid that these wouldn't be quality ones as I have another decal set that I bought earlier from BPS (some golden ones) and got a bit smudged when I applied top coat over them. But top coat didn't do any harm to these feathers, so I guess they are really better qualitywise.

The only downsite for me is that in the set you only have four of one color of these bigger feathers with this style. Of course there are some smaller ones too that you can certainly use, but these big ones are the ones that I like most. There are also some other feather designs in the set, like peacock feathers, but I haven't had time to use those yet.

Essie Madison Ave-hue Spring 2013 Collection



I already showed you the cutest box of Essie Spring 2013 Collection that L'Oreal Finland sent me to try, but here comes swatches of all the polishes!

Essie's spring collection is called Madison Ave-hue and it includes six colors that are inspired by greatest shopping destinations around the world: New York, London, Paris, Munich, Tokyo and Rio.

All of my swatches have two coats without base or top coat (except the last one, Hip-Anema, as I wore it as a full mani) and I have to say that these were very easy to apply. We have a wider brush here in Finland in Essie polishes than the one for example in those polishes that I've ordered online from USA. (I think they have change the brush in USA too, but ours is still wider.) It's almost like OPI's Pro Wide brush, except the sides of the brush are rounded, so it makes the applying of the polish very effortless and you need to do only little or sometimes no cleaning up afterwards. 




So first off is the namesake of the collection, Madison Ave-hue, gorgeous pink with silver glitter. I'm not entirely sure if I can pull a pink like this off, but the silver flecks make this polish so pretty that I still want to wear it.
 


Next one is this delicate polish called Go Ginza that Essie describes appropriately soft cherry blossom pink. This was really a surprise favourite of mine! Usually with colors like this you have to use at least three coats to get them even out, but this was pretty good with just two coats. It's probably partly due to the brush too as it makes the applying of the the polish so easy. Anyhow, I really loved the color and I will certainly wear it as a full manicure soon!
  


This awesome Parisian blue is called Avenue Maintain and to great surprise to myself, I really loved this one too! I was so sure that this wouldn't look good on me, but it's so bright and fun color, that I just couldn't dislike it. This was also my boyfriends favourite color from these six, but that's probably no surprise as he always likes the blue ones.



Next one is this pretty lilac called Bond With Whomever, that could have maybe needed a third coat, but it was still pretty good with only two coats. I don't know if this is the best match with my skintone, but I will still wear it, because the color is so pretty.
 


This next one is this really cool grey green called Maximillian Strasse Her. This was another favourite of mine and really unique to my stash. I have greens and I have greys, but I don't have anything like this one! It is also a polish that to my suits well to the spring time, but it will also look great in fall too. I'll definately be wearing this one a lot!
 


And then the last one is this fun and bright red called Hip-Anema, that Essie describes as poppy-bright red orange. I'd say this is pretty much the color of fire truck and it's so bright that my camera got spooked and I have only this one decent picture of the polish alone. However, I wore this one as a full mani, because I was feeling like I needed to wear something bright, so here I have it with some water decals:
