Today I have one gorgeous polish for you guys without any decorations or glitter for a change.

This is Zoya Reva, three coats here with base and top coat. Reva is from Zoyas summer 2011 collection and I already had couple of the polishes from the same collection (the shimmer part) and I'm thinking I should get all six of these as they all are so pretty! This was a little bit hard to capture as it looks a bit different in every different angle, but it is really a truly beautiful polish! I love the golden shimmer in it, though at the same time it made the polish look a bit Christmassy to me, but not too much. Also with some decorations or nail art that Christmassy feel could be easily erased. Qualitywise this was again the same good quality as all Zoyas (that I've tried) tend to be, so nothing to complain there. I did three thin coat, so maybe you could do only two if you use thicker ones, but I prefer one extra coat if it means I can use thinner ones.

Green & Gold Saran Wrap Manicure

With those half pearls I showed you earlier, I also received one BK nail polish to try from Born Pretty Store. I've been seeing these BK polishes recently in many blogs, so I wanted to try one out to see if the quality would be any good. I have the swatches of the polish in the end of this post, but first I want to show you the saran wrap manicure that I did using this Emeral Green Silver Shimmer polish and OPI GoldenEye.

I really like to make these saran wrap manicures. They are soooo easy and they also pretty much always end up looking really good! I loved this combo too, I think the gold and green worked really well together and the combination didn't even remind me of Christmas. I was a bit afraid it would as gold and green together tend to do that, but I think the shade of the green and also the gold aren't that chritmassy.

GoldenEye worked really nicely with this technique and I really loved how it looks over the emerald green! I probably should have taped my cuticles beforehand, as it is quite impossible to get those gold shimmer particles cleaned around the nails and with this technique there's usually at least little something to clean up. But other than that, I really enjoyed this mani!

I have to say that I was really pleasantly surprised by this! The quality was really great and I didn't have any problems with applying or anything. This could also easily be a one-coater, though I did two coats here just in case. I also really like the color! I tried to choose a color that I wouldn't already have in my stash and I think I succeeded. So honestly, I don't have anything bad to say about this one, it's really a great polish!

Red Carpet Oscar Nails

I had planned to make this mani before watching the Oscars, but I didn't start until I watched the experts talk before the show. I love to see what the stars are wearing, and to see who wins of course. But this year I was surprised by all the great singers.

What I did:

I painted my nails black to achieve the gorgeous bottle color of H&M Antique Gold with fewer coats, but I liked that it looked a little darker. I tried to make a little gradient with Antique Gold first, and then with Deborah Lippmann Boom Boom Pow on the index finger and middle finger. But I wanted the fingers to look different, so I applied many layers on the pinkie, and the thumb and the ring finger are without glitter. Then I did the stamping, and painted the underside of the nail tips with a little brush. Next time I'll paint the underside earlier in the process. But this was my first louboutin nails, and I hadn't checked how to do it.

Sat- ART- Day Club: 1960's

Sat- ART- Day Club: 1960's

The theme this week in the Sat- ART- Day Club is the 1960's. I was inspired by Jimi Hendrix clothes and albums, and Yayoi Kusama's dot patterns. First, I wanted to use aquarelle water color, but I had to take it off. I ended up using only nail polish, and painted, stamped, and painted, stamped again, and painted, and dotted. And the end result is very different from my sketches...

What I did:

First I painted my nails white, and then painted all the nails yellow and purple, and added top coat. Then I stamped a different pattern on each nail, and used the stamped image as a guide. I chose some very bright colored nail polishes and used a little round brush to paint on top of the stamped images, and tried to make psychedelic designs. I also added dots with a dotting tool, and stamped a peace symbol on my middle finger. But when I remembered what happened on the moon in July 1969, there was no more room left for space nails, not even for a moon.

January haul

January haul (2013)

I have already started to use what I've bought this month, so today I'm showing you what I bought in January. I didn't buy very much: 3 new from Pieces, one from Gina Tricot, and the rest from H&M.

H&M:

H&M: Play It, Run Baby Run

Play It, Run Baby Run. The color of Play It is a little strange. It looks like a mix of grey and silver with one drop of green. Run Baby Run is as you see it. Maybe I'll wear it when I watch the Oscars.

I liked H&M Bella's Choice so much that I bought a backup bottle, when I found it, and it was 80% off. Here you see the first bottle:

I also found these tiny mini bottles (5 ml):

H&M: Go Green, Active Blue, Play it Coral, Sporty pink

Go Green is a very pale mint with gold shimmer. The coral and the pink are creams. Active Blue has blue and a little purple shimmer, and I'm not sure what to call the finish. Microglitter or foil?

#116 Cream has gold shimmer. I hope it will be visible on the nail.

Blog to Love Friday #4

Hey everyone! I'm sorry for there being no new posts, and I'm sorry to say there won't be for a bit. My computer has finally, after 5 years of devoted service, died. I've put in an order for a new one, but it won't be shipped for about a week and then I'll need to get all my programs and things reloaded. Using my mom's laptop is letting me know just how much I'll need to reload when I go to open a program or a website from my fave places. Some good news is coming out of this though; it is giving me time to work on my own nail polish and store up some swatches and nail art.

Since I don't have my favorite places to work from I had to do some quick searching for my favorite posts of the week. They're not what I would have posted with my fave places, but I'm actually really glad. This forced me to branch out and search out new blogs, and I'm loving them!!

My first blog post has to be this Apple Pie Protein "Ice Cream" from Nutritionist in the Kitch. By God the woman is a genius! I hate bananas. There's just something about the texture of a banana that I can't eat. But I love frozen bananas, usually a cut banana with peanut butter sandwiched between the slices, so to find another way of using frozen bananas is great. To find something so delicious sounding and looking is awesome! But to find that something so sinful is healthy?? BRILLIANT! I love that this recipe takes no ice cream machine since I don't have one.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I love vintage nails. Watch Marlin Note's video tutorial to learn how to do Rose Fabric Nail Art.
If you're looking for something new and odd to do with your hair try this Hair Bow video tutorial from MakeupWearables. I love the look of hair bows, bows actually twisted up and created with your hair, but this puts a whole new spin on this look. It's an upside down, rope braided hair bow!!
I've yet to try a gradient lip. I've found most of them too unnoticeable or far too noticeable! It's a very fine line that someone walks to be able to pull off a gradient lip. But I think ChassyCali finally hooked me with her Berry and Nude Gradient lip ... or maybe it was her Red and Gold lip. Both of these are stunning and just subtle enough to work.
Watching my weight (hopefully drop) as I am, I'm always on the lookout for healthy sweet treats. I'm not a fan of doughnuts personally; I love the taste but find them far too heavy, sitting sickeningly in my stomach for hours after I eat them, and yet finding I'm still hungry! I'm hoping these super light and fluffy (healthier) Homemade Krispy Kreme Doughnuts with Healthy Glaze Icing from Chocolate Covered Katie will give me the taste of a yummy doughnut, but not the heavy after-feeling If you're looking for something a little less plain she also came up with Cake-Batter Doughnuts!! Seriously, where has this woman been my whole life???
And last but not least, Maryam Maquillage came up with these gorgeous Gems & Jewels nails. I absolutely adore the picture of her nails next to her shimmery pink lips. Am I the only one dying of jealousy over her lips?? The shape, the color, the shiny shimmery gloss. Yep, I'm totally jealous!

OPI Can't Let Go

When I first heard about OPI Liquid Sand polishes I wasn't so sure what to think and wether I would love them or hate them. Then I finally decided that I just have to get one and try, because otherwise I really wouldn't know what to think. I decided to get the purple one called Can't Let Go and I have to tell you that I'm really glad I got it! I wasn't sure if I would like the texture of the polish but I was so pleasantly surprised and I really just loved the sand paper feel of it. And also I found that the texture didn't bother me at all, it really isn't that kind that it would stick to everything. However, this one and I think maybe all of these Liquid Sand polishes are quite hard to photograph and the true beauty of this doesn't show in the pics. All the great sparklines of it seems to disappear in pictures and that's why I have here a bit blurry pics, because at least in them you can see a little bit of that sparkle.

This was also really fun polish and it was interesting to follow the changes when while it was drying. It looks to me almost ugly when you first paint it on, but after it is completely dry the true beauty of it comes to live. And as you probably already know, these take a while to dry, but it wasn't too long to me.

Of course I wanted to also try this with top coat so here it is:

Surprisingly enough, I liked it more without the top coat. Don't get me wrong, it looks really great with the top coat too, but I prefer it without one just as these were ment to wear. So now the only question is that should I get more of these or not... I kinda have my eye on the blue one, but I'm not sure if I should get it or not. I'm also hoping that they make one that will look like sand, that would be quite cool.

Orly Pixie Dust with BPS Half Pearls

Today I have one great polish to show you with another nail decoration item from Born Pretty Store. I have been lately seeing some great manicures with half pearl decorations, so when BPS offered another sample for me to try, I chose these half pearls to test (and also one nail polish, but I will post about that later). And here's the manicure I did using the pearls:

So I used Orly Pixie Dust as my base color and then just attached the half pearls with top coat on each nail. These half pearls are very easy to use and they stick really nicely with top coat too, even without sealing them with a layer of top coat over them. Also I thought they were a really nice and easy way to get something extra to the manicure. There are three different sizes of these pearls in the wheel: 4mm, 3mm and 1.5mm. For me the biggest ones are maybe a bit too big for everyday use, but perhaps I can use them for some extravaganze manicures. The other two sizes are something that I will probably use more often.

The keyword for the Sat- ART- Day Club on Saturday was: DOTTING TOOLS. This is what I came up with. First I'll tell you what I did and show more photos, and further down I'll include a photo and a list of the polishes used, and thumbnails with links to the other dotticures.

What I did:
I started with pink, mint, peach, purple and blue cream skittles. Then I used the dotting tool and made darker dots and flakie dots on the sides of one finger, and then dotted three dots of the flakie in the middle of the next finger, and so on... So I used 3 polishes from each color family: one pastel cream, one a little darker, and one flakie.

Rainbow Gradient

Today is supposed to be my X nail art for the ABC Challenge, but I'm stumped on what to do for this letter. I'll think of something by next challenge ... hopefully. For now, check out the rainbow gradient I wore last weekend.

I hate the claw, but it's pretty much the only position in nails that need to include the thumb. Some of you may remember the sideways rainbow gradient from my NOH8 nails. I wanted to try something different this time so I did them as a normal gradient. I found the lightest rainbow colors from my collection to use for this.

Here are my nails before clean-up. So messy!!! I usually tape around my nails before doing something this messy, but I forget. Isn't that the way things usually go? You only forget something that would speed things up when you're in a hurry!

I took this picture in the car. It was snowing so hard and then a little bit of sunlight peeked through, and I couldn't resist snapping a few pics. It's not up to my usual standard, but there's something I really like about this picture.

Weird things about me with some recent hauls

I got challenged by Sannu to tell five weird facts about me. This challenge has been going around in Finnish nail polish blogs for a while and Sannu challenged me already last week, so I thought I should really do this now before I'm (again) too late.. Also I didn't want to do a post without any pics, so I decided to include some of my recent nail polish hauls to this post too, so that you'd have some pics to watch also. :)

It was a bit hard to think of five weird facts about myself (because I'm sooooo normal, right?!) but I also thought that this would be a fun way for you guys to maybe learn to know me a bit better.. So, here we go.

1. I find it very difficult if not even impossible to sleep if there's a ticking clock in the same room where I sleep. Also other constant noises have the same effect, but if the noise is varying it won't bother me that much. Strangely enough, one of my favourite songs of all time is Snow Patrol - Somewhere A Clock Is Ticking...

2. I don't like if people sing, hum or whistle when I'm trying to do something. Especially my mom drives me crazy, because she tends to sing a lot and I just can't stand it. I don't usually sing anywhere, but I do sing when I'm driving by myself or with my boyfriend. We usually sing great duets while driving and listening to radio, though I'm not sure if anyone else would think so if they would hear us singing...

3. I hate bananas if they are too ripe. I do eat them and even like them if their peels are somewhat green but if they are already all yellow I don't want to eat them. Also I hate when people put banana slices or mush between cakes or in some other baked goods. There are so many other good things to put there so I just don't understand the (maybe Finnish?) need to use bananas...

Zoyas (Tiffany, Gilda and Reva) and Kleancolor Holo Chrome are bought from a Facebook nail polish group. The last three are from Ebay: Color Club Eternal Beauty, China Glaze Glitz'n Pieces and OPI Can't Let Go.

4. I like to do schedules and plan everything ahead. For example I couldn't leave for a vacation abroad if I didn't have at least some time beforehand to do some reasearch and plan which sights I want to see.

5. I don't drink alcohol much, though I'm not an absolutist either. I just never have learned "the habbit" and I don't feel the need to do that, also there isn't many alcohol drinks that taste good to me. I may have couple glasses of sparkling wine (at New Year's Eve) and maybe one or two ciders or something similar during summer time and that's about my yearly consumption.

These Orlys are bought from a Finnish store where they were on sale. Salla was so kind and provided me these as I didn't have the change to get to the store myself as it is located on the other side of the country. From left to right these are: Pixie Dust, Sweet Peacock, Glitz and It's Not Rocket Science.

This challenge has been around quite much so I'm not sure who has done it already and who hasn't, so I'm gonna challenge everyone who feel like doing this challenge and revealing weird facts about themselves. Let me know if you do it! :)
